“Regardless of my stuff-ups, they just loved me,” says thankful Jess
July 19, 2015
On the surface, Jess, an intern in 2012, appeared to have her life together. She applied herself diligently to her studies and was growing in her ministry roles. But underneath, she kept hidden an inner struggle with her former self, resulting in some poor personal choices.
When Jess realised she was pregnant, she was forced to confront the full reality of her decisions and get support to address the underlying issues in her life.
She shares, “YFC was really invested in me even before they truly knew who I was. And regardless of my stuff-ups, they just loved me and showed compassion.”
Now, three years later, Jess has joined the staff team at YFC with a God-given passion to invest in teenage girls, helping them fulfil their need for love, acceptance and worth in healthy ways.
“I just see so many girls hurting and I want them to have people who believe in them. Many young girls feel like they have to have sex with their boyfriends to be loved.
“For me, it’s not about them behaving but about preventing them from hurting later in life. I feel like it needs to be addressed but too often it’s the thing no one wants to talk about because it’s awkward.
“I’m comfortable in myself now and I’m comfortable in who God is and who I am to God. I’ve experienced genuine love, and I want other young people to know and experience that too.”
It’s because of the gifts and prayers of friends like you that young people like Jess can be supported and empowered to grow in ministry. Thank you!
