POSITIVE CHOICES

This is an interactive program designed to encourage students who are at risk of leaving school early.

  • Aimed at students who are in Year 9 and are at risk of leaving the education system too early through disenchantment, suspension or expulsion.
  • Also of great benefit to students who are lacking motivation or losing interest in the school curriculum.
  • The course runs over seven weeks - two of these involve full day trips and five of these are in class for two periods.
  • Students participate in outdoor activities, excursions, group/individual problem solving, social interaction and discussions (issues such as relationships, communication, self-esteem, anger management, substance abuse, peer pressure, trust, etc).
  • Topics discussed in light of the student's own personal goals in a positive trusting environment where the students may begin to deal with the issues facing them.

This program aims to:

  • Provide students with ongoing weekly support
  • Enhance young person's self esteem.
  • Provide opportunities to face challenges successfully.
  • Provide opportunities to work together in groups/team work.
  • Develop a trusting environment.
  • Improve levels of communication.
  • Provide frameworks for goal setting.
  • Teach accountability for ones actions.
  • Develop leadership skills.
  • Be an enjoyable, positive experience.
