HIGH HOOPS
<Back to Programs

High Hoops is a basketball ministry developed by YFC WA. Since its official launch in 2000, the program has been extremely well received and sought after.

The High Hoops team use the popular sport of basketball to create unique opportunities to speak to young people about life and Jesus.

High Hoops has developed three different presentations, which can be used individually or together for a larger event. Each presentation can be adapted to suit particular circumstances eg: availability of time, skill level or age group, number of students etc. Exhibition Games ; Skills Clinics ; All Star Games.

High Hoops Basketball

Exhibition Games

  • Entertain the students, promote the chaplaincy and upcoming events, and build team morale within the school.
  • Very simple but effective presentation in which the High Hoops team comes into the school and plays an exhibition game during a designated period or lunch break.
  • Music and commentary are used throughout the game to create an exciting and positive atmosphere.
  • Each game gives players the opportunity to share with the students in their own environment, where they are more comfortable and keen to listen.
  • We can either play against the school team or make up two teams with High Hoops players, students and even staff.
  • At half time a High Hoops player will share their testimony or give our 'HIGH' talk. This stands for Healthy lifestyle, Inspire Others, Great Attitude and Hope in God.

Skills Clinics

  • Allow us to work on a more personal note with a smaller number of students, providing them with practical basketball skills through the use of different activities.
  • Skills related back to 'stuff' that can happen in the students' lives, so that it doesn't focus only on their physical development.
  • Very flexible and can always be altered to suit the requirements of the school.
  • Depending on the skill level, age, class size etc., we run clinics ranging from large group activities using basketball fundamentals, through to specific skills development.

All-Star Games

  • Large-scale outreach events that give young people an opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. The idea is to get as many schools and local churches in a local area to come together for a combined outreach effort.
  • It is a fun packed night with music, prizes and excitement.
  • Leading up to the big night, the High Hoops team hold exhibition games at a number of schools in the area.
  • A student from each school team is chosen to be part of the Schools All-Star team. This team then gets to play against the High Hoops team on the night of the outreach event.
  • School chaplains assist in promotion and help students find their way to the event.
  • Young people from the visited schools are encouraged to come and support their All-Star team.
  • Local churches come and bring their young people and assist in the follow-up process, with the aim of eventually discipling the students into the local churches.
